Why Domes?

We design and build the most efficient, low-energy solutions for growing. In extreme environments, geodesic domes lose significantly less heat than traditional structures due to having 30% less surface area than box-shaped buildings. This translates to fewer materials required, minimized heat loss, and a vastly stronger, more resilient structure.

The strongest shape in nature.

A bubble has the least amount of surface area possible and is the strongest shape in nature. Because of this, domes are excellent for efficiency and are exactly why we choose them for extreme climate growing.

  • Unmatched resistance to heavy snow loads and high winds.
  • Maximized light penetration from all angles throughout the year.

Climate Control & Thermal Mass

Our greenhouses are designed to heat and cool themselves naturally using smart passive solar design and the power of water.

Smart Insulation

On the north wall, we use stained wood and painted foam insulation to shade the pond in the summer from direct sun. As the sun drops in the sky in the fall and winter, it warms the pond and uses reflective panels to bounce extra light into the greenhouse.

Water as a Heat Sink

Water is the most energy-efficient heat sink available. In fact, water holds 400% more heat than concrete. This keeps the greenhouse cooler in the summer, and warmer in the winter without relying on expensive heating systems.

Symbiotic Ecosystems

Using the pond water to feed the garden acts twofold: It keeps the pond clean and keeps fertilizer levels from climbing to unsafe levels for the fish, while providing the perfect backbone of nutrients to the plants.

Aquaponic Tower Functions

Towers are able to grow most foods with incredible efficiency. Our vertical aquaponic systems are a game-changer for high-yield growing.

  • The plants grow faster, more compact, with better flavor profiles, and can grow up to 30x more food over growing in flat dirt.
  • The roots grow directly in water and air, meaning there is no soil cost or mess.
  • Plants can be taken out whole, pot and all, for harvesting or to move and transplant if desired.
  • Helps regulate the temperature of the greenhouse, and the roots year round. Each tower's water supply comes from the pond water. 55 gallon barrels are buried and reinforced to keep stable water temperatures.

Why Choose Us

Based in Pine, Colorado, we build the best greenhouses possible because it's a reflection of who we are and how we choose to live. We believe in making spaces that nurture your soul; a sanctuary away from the world.

Precision Craftsmanship

Our domes are handmade with absolute precision to fit together perfectly without the use of bulky hubs. Each panel is checked to within 1/16" to ensure a flawless fit, resulting in frames that are 50% lighter than the competition while using fewer materials.

Unmatched Efficiency

Every feature works together as a cohesive system. We use high-efficiency pumps, and wax piston variable vent openers that adjust automatically. Our greenhouses are so efficient they can run entirely on a small solar setup or a single 15-amp circuit.

40+ Years of Expertise

We bring over four decades of hands-on growing experience and specialized growspace design to every project. We understand exactly what plants need to thrive and build our domes around those principles.

A Handcrafted Work of Art

There is a special energy you will feel the moment you walk into your dome. It doesn't feel like a mass-produced kit because its not; it is a handcrafted work of art designed to inspire and elevate your growing experience.

The Greenhouse Lifestyle

Owning a geodesic greenhouse is more than just extending your growing season. Whether you're dealing with the harsh winters of the Colorado Rockies or the dry heat of the Western Slope, it's about cultivating a living, breathing ecosystem right in your backyard. Experience the profound benefits of connecting with nature every single day.

A Year-Round Tropical Sanctuary

Step out of the freezing winter cold and into a warm, humid oasis. Your dome becomes a personal retreat where you can read, relax, and recharge among lush greenery, no matter what the weather is doing outside.

A Thriving Ecosystem

As your greenhouse matures, it develops a life of its own. You'll discover a fascinating micro-world where beneficial insects thrive, and small frogs might move in to keep pests in check. It's a joy to observe this natural balance establishing itself.

Pesticide-Free Harvests

When you control the environment, you control what goes into your food. Grow vibrant, healthy produce without the need for harmful chemicals or synthetic pesticides. There is unparalleled peace of mind in picking a tomato from the vine and eating it right there.

True Self-Sufficiency

Take control of your food supply. A geodesic greenhouse empowers you to produce an abundance of vegetables, fruits, and even fish year-round. It's an investment in resilience, bringing you closer to the land and reducing your reliance on fragile supply chains.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about our geodesic domes.

How easy is it to put the domes together?

With some 6" wood clamps, a friend, and some scaffolding to get up high its pretty easy. They just screw together using 3-5 screws per strut. Make sure to keep them exactly lined up so it fits!

Do I need a permit to build a dome?

Permit requirements vary by location and the size of the dome. In many areas, structures under a certain square footage (often 120-200 sq ft) do not require a permit. For larger domes, we can provide engineered architectural drawings to streamline your approval process with the local zoning office.

How do you heat a geodesic dome in winter?

Domes are highly energy-efficient. For most of the year the dome can be heated and cooled passively using a combination of water and proper insulation. To supplement the coldest months some customers use propane heaters, ceramic heaters, rocket mass heaters or electric heat pumps depending on their climate.

What materials do you use?

We use premium, sustainably sourced timber featuring precision miter cuts instead of traditional hub struts, covered with UV-resistant multi-wall polycarbonate panels. This ensures superior longevity, insulation, and hail resistance compared to standard greenhouse plastics.

How does the dome handle extreme wind and snow?

The aerodynamic shape of the geodesic dome causes wind to flow over it seamlessly, allowing it to easily withstand hurricane-force winds (115+ mph). The interlocking triangular network distributes weight evenly, meaning it can handle massive snow loads without structural failure—snow often just slides right off.

What type of foundation is required?

We recommend a compacted gravel ring, a concrete stem wall, or a structural wooden deck depending on your site and local building codes. A level, well-draining perimeter is the most critical requirement for a successful build. Depending on the size, your county may require large domes to have a foundation wall.

How do you cool the dome in the heat of summer?

Cooling is achieved passively through our automated wax-piston vents that open naturally as temperatures rise. We also utilize the cooling effect of the indoor water feature (pond), and the grow towers act like radiators that exchange heat with the earth. Fans passing over the water cools the greenhouse significantly.

How long does the polycarbonate covering last?

Our UV-treated multi-wall polycarbonate panels are built to last 15-20 years. They are highly resistant to hail and degrade very slowly compared to traditional single-layer greenhouse plastics, providing excellent long-term value.

Can I grow tropical plants in a cold climate?

Absolutely! By utilizing the thermal mass of the water tank, proper reflective insulation on the north wall, and minimal supplemental heating, many of our customers successfully grow citrus, avocados, and tropical flowers year-round, even in freezing climates.

Are geodesic domes HOA friendly?

While every Homeowners Association is different, many approve our domes because of their aesthetic appeal and high-quality materials. We can provide architectural renderings and material specs to help with your HOA application.

What happens if a panel breaks or the polycarbonate is damaged?

We include 2 extra panels of the bulk of the shapes, just not for special shapes like door struts. If a panel is damaged, simply remove it and replace it with a spare.

What can I grow in aquaponic towers?

You can grow a massive variety: leafy greens (lettuce, spinach, kale, Swiss chard, arugula, bok choy), herbs (basil, mint, cilantro, parsley, chives, oregano, thyme, sage, dill), fruiting plants (strawberries, cherry tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, beans, peas, small eggplants), flowers and ornamentals (marigolds, nasturtiums, pansies, petunias), green onions, and small radishes. Root vegetables like large carrots or potatoes are generally the only things not recommended.

What kind of maintenance is normal for a dome?

The most significant maintenance is retaping the dome seams every 8-10 years. Other regular maintenance includes gently washing the polycarbonate panels once or twice a year, inspecting the automated wax-piston vents each spring, and standard upkeep for your aquaponic systems and water features. Overall, the structure is designed to be very low-maintenance.

How do I clean the panels? Can I use alcohol to clean them?

Only use soapy water or plain water to clean the panels. NEVER use alcohol — it will destroy the polycarbonate making it cloudy and brittle.

What's the process like of ordering a dome?

We will send over the designs to start planning your dome with the first 10% deposit. It's refundable in the event the county denies your request to build. To start building, we require a 50% deposit which is nonrefundable. The balance is due on delivery or the first day of install.
